In September of 2018, the Prospect Mountain Nordic Ski area on route 9 in Woodford was purchased by a non-profit organization, Prospect Mountain Associates. The purchase has secured the future of this important outdoor recreation resource for southwestern Vermont.

The sale was made possible by a very successful local fund raising effort, a loan from the Vermont Land Trust, a grant from the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board, and a significant contribution from Williams College. The area is now managed by a nine member board. One of the former owners, Steve Whitham, has stayed on and serves as the mountain manager.

Prospect has 144 acres of land and over 30K of well-groomed cross country ski trails. It serves as the home of the Williams College ski team, Mount Anthony High School ski team, and the Bill Koch Youth Ski League. In addition, the Berkshire League from western Massachusetts often uses the venue for races.

Ski touring for folks of all abilities is available at Prospect which has many flat or easy rolling trails. Ski and snowshoe rentals are available as well as lessons. The rustic lodge can be rented in the off season for weddings and other functions. A full service grill is available in the lodge.
