Downtown Bennington, Vermont Transforms This Memorial Day Weekend for the 34th Annual Mayfest!
Downtown Bennington, Vermont is transformed this weekend into a bustling street festival as it hosts the 34th annual Mayfest.
The event, which takes place this Saturday (May 25th, 2019), is put on every year by the Better Bennington Corporation, in partnership with over 100 local artists and craftspeople, local nonprofits, downtown businesses, and street food vendors.
Main Street will be closed to traffic from the Four Corners intersection with Route 9 to Valentine Street. The festival will last from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be three stages with live entertainment throughout the day, including Ben Mackin, Anna Butcher, James Tennyson, Mission City Band, the Crossover Cloggers, Hidden Angel, Bennington County Choral Society, and Bennington Ukulele Ensemble.
There will also be games for children, including face painting, a dunk tank, a bubble-making pool, a bouncy house, balloons, sand art, and more. New this year, the 4H Club is setting up a playground in the Nichols parking lot. Handicapped-accessible bathrooms and a childcare station, and Second Chance Animal Center will have a place where pets can take a break from the crowds and stay hydrated. Bennington Police and the Bennington Rescue Squad will be on hand in case of an emergency.
As always, food, both from street vendors and local restaurants, will be a big part of the festivities.
Many downtown businesses get into the act as well by offering special promotions. St. Peter's Church will be hosting a tag and bake sale, First Baptist Church will host a pancake breakfast, and just a few blocks away the Bennington Farmer's Market will be open at the River Walk on Depot Street from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Merchant's Park, on the corner of North Street and Pleasant Street will also host the Outdoor Summer Marketplace, which will also appear at First Friday events throughout the summer.
