OLDCASTLE FILM SERIES: MY FATHER'S VIETNAM

Nov. 10 - Bennington, VT

In celebration of Veterans Day, Oldcastle Theatre presents the next film in our Independent movie series.

My Father’s Vietnam

6:00pm meet n greet with filmmaker Soren Sorensen and and his father and Vietnam Veteran: Peter Sorensen

7:00pm film and Q&A

Trailer: vimeo.com/144933673

A personal documentary about a public subject, My Father's Vietnam personifies the connections made and unmade by the Vietnam War. Featuring never-before-seen photographs and 8mm footage of the era, My Father's Vietnam is the story of three soldiers, only one of whom returned home alive. Interviews with the filmmaker's Vietnam Veteran father, and the friends and family members of two men he served with who were killed there, give voice to individuals who continue to silently carry the psychological burdens of a war that ended over 40 years ago. My Father's Vietnam carries with it the potential to encourage audiences to broach the subjects of service and sacrifice with the veterans in their lives.

This event is FREE for all Veterans!

FOUR NATIONS CONCERT: GAINSBOROUGH'S MUSIC

Nov. 12th - Williamstown, MA

The Four Nations Ensemble and Artistic Director Andrew Appel present a lively selection of music based on the paintings of Thomas Gainsborough, featuring Pascale Beaudin, soprano; Kathie Stewart, flute; Olivier Brault and Adriane Post, violin; Kyle Miller, viola; Jaap TerLinden, viol; Loretta O’Sullivan, cello; and Andrew Appel, harpsichord.

The Clark’s collection includes one of Thomas Gainsborough’s most exquisite and touching portraits, Elizabeth and Thomas Linley. Thomas, a great friend of Mozart, drowned in a swimming accident in his early twenties after having written violin concertos, choral works, and songs for Shakespeare productions by David Garrick. Elizabeth married the brilliant playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan, but the marriage was a strained one. Unfazed by her voice—said to be the best in England—Sheridan refused his wife access to the stage once married.

Four Nations, inspired by these two stars of the eighteenth century and the artist’s passion for music, has woven a program around the composers who passed through Gainsborough’s studio, the finest in eighteenth-century London. We add to the works of Thomas Linley, songs written specifically for Elizabeth Linley, and works by J. C. Bach, Johann Abel, Thomas Chilcott, and Franz Joseph Haydn. This moment in music history is marked with grace, eternal sunshine, and endless intelligence.
